This episode of Sinko is the first of several guest-selected podcasts in the upcoming months. Episode 94 comes courtesy of James Quinn:

"How about 5 songs from the most prolific band of our generation, The Fall? 60 albums (both live and studio) since 1979." He culled their 60 albums to get these five songs...not an easy task.

68: 2:42

In an article for The Morning News, Joshua Allen did a little "research" to determine that 2 minutes and 42 seconds is the ideal song length. I think he might be right, and here are five songs that clock in at that perfect length.

2. Franz Ferdinand - You Could Have It So Much Better
3. Ted Leo & The Pharmacists - Criminal Piece
4. Weezer - American Gigolo

2. Ribbon
3. Yeah, It's Beautiful Here Too
4. Her Royal Fisticuffs

One of the things I dislike most in my life is moving -- I don't like packing, moving or unpacking. I don't like moving myself or helping others move anymore. So I guess it's somewhat odd that I chose this as a topic...

54: Rap Influences

For this episode, I selected some songs that had a large impact on the formation of rap music. From Kraftwerk's influence on electro and funk, Herbie Hancock's "Rockit" (which spawned almost as many DJ's as the Beatles' Ed Sullivan appearance spawned bands), Art Of Noise's sampling, and of course often-sampled beats like "Funky Drummer" and "The Big Beat".

1. Kraftwerk - Trans-Europe Express
2. Herbie Hancock - Rockit
3. Art Of Noise - Beat Box
4. James Brown - Funky Drummer
5. Billy Squire - The Big Beat

52: Guitar Hero Wish List

I recently got Guitar Hero for my birthday, and I'm totally hooked (as a combined music nerd/video game geek should be). I'd have a hard time picking songs I would want to be in the game, but here are five by bands that (I think) have not made it into any of the various versions of GH.

1. The Ventures - Slaughter On Tenth Avenue
2. Bad Brains - I Against I
3. Samiam - Viewpoint
4. Quicksand - Unfulfilled
5. Man or Astro-man? - Interstellar Hardrive

47: Shoegazy

I realize that "shoegazer" as a genre isn't really an accurate description, or even a flattering one...but what else can I call this set of songs? "Shoegazy"? Well, I guess I did...

25: Pixies

I've always liked the Pixies, but over time I've really come to appreciate their music even more. They really helped pave the way for (good) alternative rock, and I was glad they reunited a few years ago so I could see them live. Rather than feature some of their "hits," for this podcast I decided to highlight some of my favorite less-well-known songs.

1. Ana
2. Dead
3. The Holiday Song
4. Alec Eiffel
5. Something Against You

22: Tim Armstrong

Tim Armstrong might not have a good voice, but it's definitely distinct. He got his start with Operation Ivy (going by the name "Lint"). After that band broke up, he went on to success with Rancid, and recently had a weird rap-punk side project Transplants.

1. Operation Ivy - Unity
2. Rancid - Detroit
3. Bad Religion - Television
4. Rancid - Let Me Go
5. Transplants - Diamonds And Guns

Man or Astro-man? alone have some of the longest song titles in music, including "Spectrograph Reading Of The Varying Phantom Frequencies Of Chronic, Incurable Tinnitus" and "Obligatory Part 2 Song In Which There Is No Presently Existing Part 1, Nor The Plans To Make One". But I chose a different one, along with four others:

2. The Kinks - Nothin' In The World Can Stop Me Worryin' 'Bout That Girl
3. The Beatles - Everybody's Got Something To Hide Except Me And My Monkey

Who doesn't like a good drummer? Sinko podcast #3 listens to five great drummers -- guys who don't just keep the beat but add energy, personality, and subtle fills that I love to hear. These are songs I like to hear just to concentrate on the drums.

1. The Police (Stewart Copeland) - One World (Not Three)
2. Sunny Day Real Estate (William Goldsmith) - Theo B
